By design, mostly &#8212; <a href=\"http:\/\/tanya.dw.co.za\" target=\"_blank\">Tanya<\/a> didn&#8217;t like the Linux part of <a href=\"http:\/\/tanya.dw.co.za\/?p=125\" target=\"_blank\">her eeePC<\/a>, so the deal was, I get her a Windoze netbook and she gives me the eee.<\/p>\n<p>So I got a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.digitalplanet.co.za\/p-117337-dell-inspiron-mini-9-intel-atom-n270-16ghz533mhz512kb-xp-home-1gb-ram-8gb-solid-state-hd-89inch-screen-black.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Dell Inspiron 910<\/a> from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.digitalplanet.co.za\/\" target=\"_blank\">Digital Planet<\/a>, using <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ebucks.com\" target=\"_blank\">eBucks<\/a> &#8212; didn&#8217;t have to &#8220;pay&#8221; a cent. Bargain. OK, the thing comes with not enough RAM, due to a <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dell_Inspiron_Mini_Series\" target=\"_blank\">Windows XP licencing agreement with Microsoft<\/a>. But this <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Upgrade-Inspiron-System-PC2-6400-NON-ECC\/dp\/B001V63LBC\" target=\"_blank\">can be fixed<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, back to the eeePC. Of course I want <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.laptopmag.com\/enabling-advanced-desktop-mode-on-the-eee-pc-900\" target=\"_blank\">a full desktop<\/a> on it. And of course I can&#8217;t resist <a href=\"http:\/\/code.google.com\/p\/pimpmyeee\/\" target=\"_blank\">fiddling with it<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>With the result that I&#8217;ve had to restore factory settings with F9 \/ format disk \/ re-install Linux about four times already. At least the process is easy and elegant. I&#8217;m storing my stuff on a 1 GB SD card, but I can see a bigger card making this a useful system.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>OK, so I&#8217;ve now also joined the eee-crowd.
