You see, there&#8217;s nothing really wrong with Windows 2000.<\/p>\n<p>What is wrong is that the latest ChromeFoxEra doesn&#8217;t run on Windows 2000 any more, and the latest Flash plugins don&#8217;t plug into the earlier versions of ChromeFoxEra, and the older Flash plugins won&#8217;t play Youtube movies any more because of a completely misguided opinion that one can make it impossible to download movies off the &#8216;net if you use the latest greatest features of Flash.<\/p>\n<p>Or something like that.<\/p>\n<p>And with both my home PC and my work PC now running Windows 7 (Classic desktop theme, animations and special effects very much &#8220;off&#8221;) it was time to upgrade the Mini 9 from XP to 7.<\/p>\n<p>Google gives many hits on <a href=\"http:\/\/en.community.dell.com\/dell-groups\/new-to-community\/f\/3511\/t\/19263821\">how to do this<\/a>. But those websites \/ blogs don&#8217;t exist any more.<\/p>\n<p>Fortunately we have the Wayback Machine, which saved <a href=\"http:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20090123124026\/http:\/\/www.multimolti.de\/blog\/2009\/01\/09\/shrink-windows-7-to-fit-on-asus-eee-pc-4gb-sdd\/\">a copy of multimolti<\/a>&#8216;s blog which is OK and <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20090713194232\/http:\/\/rickatnight11.com\/?p=181\">a copy of Rick White&#8217;s blog<\/a> which is excellent.<\/p>\n<p>So I followed that, except that I used the <a href=\"http:\/\/rufus.akeo.ie\/\">very excellent Rufus<\/a> to make a bootable USB stick.<\/p>\n<p>Peeve: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vlite.net\/\">vlite<\/a> is a nifty tool, but it needs the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-us\/download\/details.aspx?id=9085\">Windows Automated Installation Kit<\/a> (WAIK). Download vlite, 1.4 megabytes. Download WAIK, <strong>1.4 gigabytes<\/strong>. Microsoft needs to take some lessons from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grc.com\/smgassembly.htm\">Steve Gibson<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Vendor 197B, Device 2382 \/ 2383 : Card Reader from <a href=\"http:\/\/jmicron.com.tw\/\">JMicron<\/a>, download drivers <a href=\"ftp:\/\/driver.jmicron.com.tw\/CardReader\/Windows\/\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>ACPI\\CPL0002: Battery meter, install <a href=\"http:\/\/ftp.us.dell.com\/app\/R192569.EXE\">R192569.EXE<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Touchpad driver: From <a href=\"http:\/\/www.synaptics.com\/en\/drivers.php\">Synaptics<\/a>. Yes, you have to download the <a href=\"http:\/\/drivers.synaptics.com\/Synaptics_v17_0_19_C_XP32_Vista32_Win7-32_XP64_Vista64_Win7-64_Acme_Inc.zip\">118 megabyte file for Windows XP, Vista, 7 and 8, 32 and 64 bit<\/a>. I guess it&#8217;s more convenient for them that way.
