I don&#8217;t have enough of them to call it a collection but I guess I&#8217;m working on it.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.radiomuseum.org\/m\/ross_usa_en_1.html\">Ross Electronics Corporation<\/a> imported <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hilberink.nl\/tross.htm\">transistor radios<\/a> from Japan from 1955 to about 1970. They were located at 589 East Illinois Street and later (I think) 2834 South Lock Street, Chicago. As far as I can tell, there&#8217;s no relation to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/jwpearce\/12439051534\/\">Ross  Radio Company<\/a> of Youngstown, Ohio.<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-2813\" href=\"http:\/\/www.retro.co.za\/blog\/?attachment_id=2813\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2813\" title=\"matchbox\" src=\"http:\/\/www.retro.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/matchbox.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"523\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-2814\" href=\"http:\/\/www.retro.co.za\/blog\/?attachment_id=2814\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2814\" title=\"Open\" src=\"http:\/\/www.retro.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Open.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"486\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s a better image of the schematic on the inside of the back cover (yes, there was a time when radios came with schematics).<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-2767\" href=\"http:\/\/www.retro.co.za\/blog\/?attachment_id=2767\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-2767\" title=\"RossSchematic\" src=\"http:\/\/www.retro.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/RossSchematic.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"947\" height=\"378\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It would be a mistake to expect good performance from a 1965-ish design running on one 1.5V cell, but the performance of my one is beyond mediocre.
