Had fun finding the ticket office (can&#8217;t buy from the machine because International).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.retro.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/IMG_3379r.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5392\" src=\"http:\/\/www.retro.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/IMG_3379r.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The ticket office it through that door. The one that looks like a radiation hazard.<\/p>\n<p>The train trip takes all day, so pack food &amp; drink and a book. We got to Ljubljana around 1700. It was raining. _sigh_<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.retro.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/IMG-20230511-WA0009r.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5397\" src=\"http:\/\/www.retro.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/IMG-20230511-WA0009r.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We didn&#8217;t feel like going far so we ended up at the wine bar next door, they&#8217;re either part of or affiliated with or <a href=\"https:\/\/dealhub.io\/glossary\/value-added-reseller\/\">VAR<\/a>-ing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/place\/\/@46.0524895,14.5117032,20.25z?entry=ttu\">the burger place next to them<\/a>, so it was burgers and wine on the menu.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.retro.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/IMG_4125r.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5393\" src=\"http:\/\/www.retro.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/IMG_4125r.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This is where we stayed in Ljubljana.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.retro.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/IMG_4126cr.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5394\" src=\"http:\/\/www.retro.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/IMG_4126cr.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"625\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Right next to the &#8220;Erotic Shop&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Quite a nice area, really.<\/p>\n<p>No, seriously. Right next to the Dragon bridge, and despite the graffiti the place is clean (Europe in general is clean, Ljubljana very much so) and quiet and we had a river view.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.retro.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/IMG-20230512-WA0004r.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5395\" src=\"http:\/\/www.retro.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/IMG-20230512-WA0004r.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>(OK I&#8217;m joking about the river view. I mean, that is the river down there, technically, but&#8230;)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.retro.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/IMG_3407cr.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5402\" src=\"http:\/\/www.retro.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/IMG_3407cr.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"412\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Same thing as in Budapest. Father went to Dachau, mother went to Auschwitz, kid died fighting. &#8220;Osvobojen&#8221; = &#8220;freed&#8221;, so amazingly both Evgen and Amalija survived the war. Or that&#8217;s how I read it.<\/p>\n<p>Anyway. Not so many nice pictures of the scenery because the weather was kind of miserable.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.retro.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/IMG_3414r.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5398\" src=\"http:\/\/www.retro.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/IMG_3414r.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We went up the funicular to the castle, climbed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=tH2ZpbE_ow0\">the staircase all the way to the top<\/a>, then walked down the hill.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.retro.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/IMG_4178r.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5399\" src=\"http:\/\/www.retro.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/IMG_4178r.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Yes, it was raining a bit.<\/p>\n<p>We stopped at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/place\/\/@46.0431536,14.502635,19z?entry=ttu\">Apotheka coctail bar<\/a> for a beer and a hot chocolate. Excellent, recommended.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.retro.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/IMG_4193cr.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5405\" src=\"http:\/\/www.retro.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/IMG_4193cr.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"942\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The next day the sun was out and we got a few better pictures.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.retro.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/IMG_4200r.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5406\" src=\"http:\/\/www.retro.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/IMG_4200r.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We went to see the Ple\u010dnik library. For 5 euros per person, this is what you can see. The reading room, with NO BOOKS. Oh, and the staircase is also included as an attraction. NOT recommended.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.retro.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/IMG_4213r.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5407\" src=\"http:\/\/www.retro.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/IMG_4213r.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Yea, we didn&#8217;t know either.<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, the main point of Ljubljana was to go to the Friday market (which rained out) and to get a car. Ended up hiring a car from renti.si. They&#8217;re a bit bait and switchy in that you can&#8217;t book a car through their website, and their special (20 Euro \/ day for the 25 Euro \/ day cheapie if you take it for two weeks or more) is only available if you book it. So I ended up with the 25 Euro \/ day option. Which was still the best price out there.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.retro.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/IMG_4215rcr.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5408\" src=\"http:\/\/www.retro.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/IMG_4215rcr.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"399\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The weather forecast told me that this Monday was going to have the best weather of the whole week, so I made a beeline to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.letsgoslovenia.si\/welcome-to-jeruzalem-in-slovenia\/\">Jeruzalem<\/a>, specifically lunch at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.taverna-kupljen.si\/\">Gosti\u0161\u010de Taverna<\/a>. Recommended.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.retro.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/20230515_183422r.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5410\" src=\"http:\/\/www.retro.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/20230515_183422r.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And from Jeruzalem it&#8217;s only a short trip home (where &#8220;home&#8221; = our Vikend in Globoka).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.retro.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/IMG_4229r.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5409\" src=\"http:\/\/www.retro.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/IMG_4229r.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The rest of the week was kind of meh, weather-wise. We went to Vara\u017edin for lunch and Ptuj for second-hand clothes (lots of second-hand clothes) and for the rest stayed in, made fire, cooked, and drank. Which is probably no different from what we would have done had the sun been shining.<\/p>\n<p>Then for the weekend we went to Zagreb, and from there to Zadar and Pula, but that&#8217;s for a different blog post.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We decided to take the train from Budapest to Ljubljana.
