Tanya&#8217;s sore, I&#8217;m sore, yea, walked a bit too much yesterday. But it&#8217;s 07:15, the sun is up, and the city awaits.<\/p>\n<p>So this time we take the tram up the road to Malovanka and&#8230; start walking.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5948\" src=\"http:\/\/www.retro.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/250530091418-T-IMG_5663-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"533\" height=\"800\" \/><\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s a lookout tower at the top of Pet\u0159\u00edn hill. And they&#8217;re mercenary, to take the stairs to the top costs 250Kc but if you want the elevator it&#8217;s 400Kc. Not that we went up, it was (1) a dull day and (2) way too early, they only open at 10.<\/p>\n<p>So we wandered down the hill.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5949\" src=\"http:\/\/www.retro.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/250530092354-T-IMG_5671cr.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"361\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Pity about it being such a dull day.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5950\" src=\"http:\/\/www.retro.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/250530094311-W-20250530_094311r.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" \/><\/p>\n<p>About half way down the hill you will find the Neboz\u00edzek restaurant. They only open at 11:00, but the bartender will happily sell you a beer and a soda for cash. And yea, beer at 09:30. Nobody judges in Prague.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5952\" src=\"http:\/\/www.retro.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/250530102028-W-IMG_5875rcr.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"840\" \/><\/p>\n<p>At the bottom of the hill we too were feeling a bit like these guys (Memorial to the Victims of Communism, Olbram Zoubek, 2002). Tried to pop into <a href=\"https:\/\/usvejku.cz\/\">Pivnice U \u0160vejk\u016f<\/a> for a something (i.e. beer) but the dude figured they&#8217;re not open yet. Dude, this is money walking past your door. Good thing I did too, because the EC279 I had intended to take was fully booked, so we had to get tickets on the roughly 20% more expensive RJ1043.<\/p>\n<p>Tanya was feeling peckish and I had a pointer to a poutine(!) place so back on the Metro to Karlin and walk around the corner to <a href=\"https:\/\/garagepoutine.cz\/home-en.html\">Garage Poutine<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5961\" src=\"http:\/\/www.retro.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/250530130331-T-20250530_130330r.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We shared a small Classic for about R80, with a coke and (of course) a beer, very good and recommended.<\/p>\n<p>And then we buggered off back to the AirBnB for some time out.<\/p>\n<p>Half past three-ish we were ready to go out again, and there were a few places on my list that I though worth investigating, so Metro-and-tram to \u017di\u017ekov where they have a farmer&#8217;s market and also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.funwarijapanesedelights.com\/\">Funwari<\/a>.<\/p>\n<small>embedded by <a href=\"http:\/\/wordpress.org\/extend\/plugins\/embedded-video-with-link\/\" title=\"plugin page\"><em>Embedded Video<\/em><\/a><\/small><br \/><a title=\"Video File\" href=\"width=\"360\"\">Download Video<\/a>\n<!-- generated by WordPress plugin Embedded Video -->\n\n<p>Sadly, they were out of stock of the Neko Purin :-(<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5963\" src=\"http:\/\/www.retro.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/250530160438-W-IMG_5882rcr.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"975\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.retro.co.za\/blog\/?p=5913#TelkomTower\">Telkom tower<\/a> dominates. Note the &#8220;babies&#8221; crawling up and down &#8212; they&#8217;re by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ourbeautifulprague.com\/babies-on-the-tower-and-on-kampa\/\">David \u010cern\u00fd<\/a>, and there are ten of them I&#8217;m told.<\/p>\n<p>The tower should make a really nice lookout on a good day (that&#8217;s the floor with the large windows), and it&#8217;s also <a href=\"https:\/\/towerpark.cz\/rezervace\/\">a hotel<\/a> (smaller windows above) if you&#8217;re prepared to spend around a thousand Euros per night for two people sharing. That&#8217;s about what out plane tickets cost. For both of us. Return.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5969\" src=\"http:\/\/www.retro.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/250530161926-W-20250530_161926rcr.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"934\" \/><\/p>\n<p>So we grabbed the tram again, this time to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ubansethu.cz\">Ba\u0161ta<\/a>, where Tanya had the duck and I&#8230; had beer. Lots of good beer. And the little shop next door had Becherovka in liter bottles for a good price.
